You don’t need more money, you need this!

The simplest shift I made to stop feeling broke and start building

The real reason my money disappeared every month

I thought my income was the problem and it used to made me bitter toward my employer, toward myself, toward my obligations. I was of the opinion that if I could just earn more, things would finally feel stable. But no matter how many raises or promotions I got the feeling didn’t go away. I was still wondering where all the money went AND I WAS STILL BITTER.

The truth is, my money didn’t need to increase. It needed a system.

Until I started using categories, everything felt chaotic. My spending, saving, and goals were all tangled up. I didn’t know what I could afford because I hadn’t told my money what it was for.

💡 Money categories changed everything for me

This is one of the simplest but most powerful shifts I’ve ever made. I created a few clear categories, and suddenly I had structure.

Here’s how mine looked when I started:

  • Essentials: rent, groceries, utilities

  • Financial goals: debt payments, savings

  • Variable spending: eating out, gifts, Amazon scrolls, personal allowance/self care

  • Overflow: unexpected stuff that always comes up

  • Surplus: goes toward debt reduction

It was basic, but it gave me clarity. I could see what was fixed, what was flexible, and what needed adjusting. No more guilt, just awareness.

📊 A category-based plan gives you control without overthinking

When I didn’t know my numbers, I spent emotionally. I would tell myself I “deserved it” because I worked hard, or I’d avoid checking my balance because I already knew it wasn’t good news.

But categories turned those vague feelings into real data.

They helped me:

  • Set limits without feeling restricted

  • Track progress without using complicated apps

  • Identify where small leaks were adding up

And best of all, they helped me say yes and no from a place of clarity.

👟 Start with three categories and build from there

If budgeting has ever felt overwhelming to you, start simple.

Pick three:

  1. Needs

  2. Goals

  3. Wants

You can always make it more detailed later. But starting is what shifts your perspective. Every time you spend, you’ll know where that money belongs and where it’s taking you.

❤️ This isn’t about perfect budgeting. It’s about intentional living

You don’t need to track every cent to feel in control. You need a system that reflects what matters to you.

I still make adjustments. Life is always changing. But now I have a structure that flexes with me, instead of leaving me feeling like I’m always behind.

You deserve to feel confident when you look at your money. Not confused.
Start with simple categories and let them guide your next step.
